Philadelphia, PA September 2, 2011 –Some mothers and daughters have the same interests or hobbies, or even the same taste in clothes. Susan Cooke and her daughter Tara have a lot more in common than that. Each is currently enrolled as a nursing student at Drexel University.
While Tara is a sophomore BSN student taking classes on campus, mother Susan (BSN, RN) is earning her MSN in Leadership with Drexel Online. Though their coursework differs, they have each found Drexel’s nursing program to be of extremely high quality.
“During our tour of campus, all of the faculty conveyed enthusiasm for Drexel and their mission and are obviously very proud that they are part of the staff. Tara was blown away by Drexel’s commitment to technology, both within the college and the nursing program,” states Mrs. Cooke.
Mrs. Cook is equally enthusiastic about learning with Drexel Online. What really impresses her is how responsive the faculty is to her questions and needs. “I have never felt like I was asking a stupid question or had to wait too long to get an answer. They really want you to success but they make you work for it – which is good.”
Susan works at Kennedy Health System in Stratford as Nurse Manager of the ICU, and because it is a Drexel Pro Partner, she enjoys reduced tuition rates. While that’s one reason she chose Drexel Online, there are many others. “The curriculum is extremely relevant and the professors are dedicated, enthusiastic, reachable and accommodating. The computer support department is also excellent.”
Susan and Tara are very supportive of each other – which sometimes results in role-reversal. Continues Susan, ‘Tara often questions me about whether or not I have started a paper. And if the answer is ‘no’, I get the dreaded, ‘What are you waiting for? You better get to work.’
Tara is on schedule to graduate with a BSN in June 2015, and was the Presidential Scholarship as an incoming freshman. She has just been appointed the Community Service Chairperson for SNAP (Student Nurse Association of Pennsylvania). Susan should earn her MSN in Leadership in March, 2013.
